About Your Teacher

Hi, my name is Theresa Redmond (she/her/hers) and you can call me Theresa, Dr. Redmond, or Professor Redmond.

I’m a Professor of Media Studies in the Department of Media, Technology, and Career Studies (MCL) where I teach in both undergraduate and graduate Media, Technology, and Learning Design (MTL) programs. This year marks my 14th year at Appalachian State University.

I love teaching and work hard to create positive, engaging, and meaningful classes. My teaching is guided by the belief that all learning requires wholehearted inquiry, community care, playful creativity, and authentic connections and I strive to design learning experiences that address these core beliefs.

Along with teaching, I publish on topics related to teaching media literacy, curriculum design, creativity, and the arts. Before joining the faculty at AppState, I taught the Visual Arts in middle school and high school. When I’m not teaching or writing, I enjoy visual journaling, creating mixed media art, hiking, gardening, and spending time with my family and dog.
