Assessment

Your learning in our class will be evaluated using a percentage-based grading system with two levels of assessment. Level 1 comprises engagement and process activities. Level 2 is projects. A detailed breakdown of percentages for your class are provided in your graphic course syllabus on AsULearn.

Level 1 assessment evaluates your engagement and learning processes related to: building knowledge, applying learning from course readings and resources, growing awareness of issues and ideas, sharing and expanding perspectives, and developing and refining expressive digital media skills. There are many opportunities to participate in Level 1 learning activities, making this level of assessment an ongoing, low stakes evaluation that supports the formation of your learning, or your learning process, throughout the semester.

Level 2 assessment scores your work related to synthesizing and applying your knowledge through specific course projects. Projects are described in depth on our course AsULearn site. Because there are less projects in a given course, there are limited opportunities to participate, making this level of assessment a culminating or final assessment. For projects, you can expect high guidance (think of it like preliminary feedback) from your instructor via a detailed grading guide that is included with the full project descriptions on AsULearn. Through course projects, you’ll build skills in: analyzing contemporary issues, cultivating new perspectives, synthesizing big ideas, creating and representing content digitally, working with readings and resources from class, and identifying new evidence from external sources to incorporate.
