Visual Media Literacy with The 4Ps
What kinds of things do we read?
How do we read visual media– like illustrations, comics, or movies?
These are some of the questions you might ask yourself when building visual and media literacy. All media are constructed– including books, illustrations, comics, graphic novels, movies, TV shows, cartoons, video games, and more!

The 4P Framework helps us "read pictures" so that we can engage in active thinking about the media we consume and create.
The 4Ps are:
-
Posture- is the body language of the characters that helps the reader understand their feelings moods or reactions.
-
Position- is the placement of the characters or props in the image and is used to help show the feelings, mood, or other parts of the story.
-
Props- are objects or details that help communicate what is going on in the story and how the characters are feeling.
-
Point of view (POV)- is the way the reader sees the characters or story.
